Germany is on everybody’s lips these days. A rich history, charming traditions and beautiful nature puts it on our European top 5. Tempted? Here’s why you have to put Niedersachsen (federal state in the Northwestern part of the country) on your bucket list immediately.
Wining and dining in Hannover
Modern gastronomy in beautiful surroundings. Basil is a blend of laid-back cuisine and remarkable settings, which makes it so very unique. Located inside a stable, which was once part of the royal military riding institute, Basil has plenty of space and a delicate selection of international menus with a regional twist. Guests will also find an extensive wine list.
French gourmet cuisine without the fuss. Clichy offers a luxurious treat for your taste buds in tasteful and traditional surroundings. While Francophiles will be happy to find most of the usual suspects on the menu (lobster, tartar, foie gras), one will also notice a local touch. Fresh ingredients and very elegant servings. The sommelier will guide you through the wine list.
If wine is your passion, you’ve come to the right place! Serving 80 wines and a small selection of cocktails and coffee specialties, Weinbar Gegenüber is a great spot for pre-dinner drinks or a casual Friday meeting with friends. The ambience is very cosy and it’s located in the heart of the city.
Spa indulgence at Aspria, Hannover
Germans love their spa! In fact, they are amongst the most passionate wellness nations in Europe, so if you’re here, make sure to sign up for a little self-pampering! Hannover is no exception. The wellness pride of the city is called ‘Aspria’ and it’s located just 5 minutes by car from the city center. Known to by an exclusive spa center, Aspria offers its clients anything from fitness and yoga classes to sauna treatments and traditional spa facilities. There’s even a small café with healthy snacks and homemade juices, and if your back craves a massage, the spa therapists take care of that too. We can highly recommend a round of massage at this place – it was probably one of the best we had in 2015! Aspria in Hannover is located just outside of the city center, bordering the idyllic Maschsee. Take a walk in the area if you have time.

Royal sightseeing, Celle
The historical town of Celle is located just 40 minutes from Hannover, and you have to be sure not to miss this pretty little gem! The history of Celle is closely linked to the Royal Danish Court – sign up for a guided tour at the fairytale-like castle and you will see how. Visiting this place is like stepping back in time; most houses and shops have perfect timber framings and narrow window bars – many of them are quite crooked, but that’s all part of the charm. Visit the Old Market Square in the center to feel the presence of history and pass by the oldest coffee shop in town, Café Kiess, for a coffee and a German treat. You’ll also have a great breakfast here!
