Have you ever heard the phrase ‘home away from home’? To me, it’s that place you can always return to after a long day (or night) of traveling. Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport is currently my ‘home on the road’. And it can be yours, too, if you’re often in Denmark or just passing through.
Once hotels were something I rarely engaged with; only when traveling with my family or friends. Today, hotels have become a part of my daily life. I write about them, I visit them and I stay at them – sometimes more often than I stay at home. I love hospitality and that feeling of excitement I get when entering a hotel lobby. I know… I’m a nerd 😉
Splitting my time between Berlin (home) and Denmark (former home), I’m often in need of a place to stay when arriving late at the airport or leaving early. That’s why I’ve come to appreciate the location of Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport (the former Hilton), which is literally located a stone’s throw from the airport.
If you’re not afraid of heights, make sure to book a room on one of the top floors. From there, you’ll have a 360 degree view of Copenhagen, the ocean and Sweden in the distance. On clear nights, you can watch the stars and airplanes departing and arriving (my favorite activity when arriving late) 🙂
The hotel is a standard Clarion property, but slightly bigger than most. 382 rooms are scattered over 12 floors, the conference and meeting facilities are really good and the restaurant serves traditional brasserie food that fits most. Next Winter, the hotel’s new restaurant concept ‘Kitchen & Table by Marcus Samuelsson’ will open its doors, and it’s worth going there simply because Marcus Samuelsson is said to be one of Barack Obamas favorite chefs!
Still, the best part of my bi-monthly stay is the massive breakfast/brunch buffet. If you’re not in a hurry to catch a flight, take your time to indulge in the different pastries, spreads, fruit salads and hot dishes offered by the chefs in the show kitchen. It’s usually pretty crowded after 9AM, so try to come early. Oh, and there’s a “single’s section” in the back of the restaurant for people traveling alone. Quite comfortable if you, like me, prefer a more quiet space when eating.
If jumping straight into your king size bed doesn’t do the trick for you after a long, exhausting flight, N’imat Spa on the top floor of the hotel certainly will! The luxurious Asian-inspired spa offers a wide range of treatments, and spa facilities include a large pool, a sauna and a steam bath. This is indeed a true wellness temple for travelers. And you can also book a treatment if you’re not staying at the hotel.
