Hotel Sofitel Berlin: Contemporary elegance in the heart of the city

Last time I went to Berlin (in April), I stayed in one of the city’s 5 star hotels; Sofitel Berlin Kurfürstendamm. This contemporary hotel houses 311 rooms, a lounge bar, a restaurant and a wellness area. And it’s only a stone’s throw away from the buzzing city center.

Modern and timeless

With its 17-story limestone facade, Sofitel is dominating the renowned Kurfürstendamm shopping quarter, which is also the reason we had no difficulties finding it upon our arrival.
In typical Sofitel style, the hotel is a blend of modern design and timeless elegance, which seems welcoming to most travelers - and cultures. The first thing you notice when entering the large building is a spacious lobby kept simple yet cosy in golden and dark brown colors. The check-in process went quick and shortly after we were located on the 4th floor in a so-called ‘Luxury Room’. The hotel offers six different room types of which a ‘Luxury Room’ is a suitable choice for couples enjoying a long weekend in Berlin. The room is spacious (between 40-62 m2) and offers artworks by artist Junior Toscanelli. Other features include flatscreen TV, free wifi and complimentary newspapers, but I found the best part to be the spacious marble bathroom with Lanvin products and the view to the historical Kaiser Vilhelm Memorial Church.

A Luxury Room

In-house gastronomy and wellness

Berlin offers plenty of amazing culinary experiences, which deserves to be explored, but for those wanting to stay in, Sofitel Kurfürstendamm accommodates two cosy restaurants as well. ‘Le Faubourg Restaurant’ has an innovative French kitchen paired with good French and German wines while ‘Restaurant Saint Germain’ houses the lavish breakfast buffet consisting of everything from fruit smoothies, homemade pastries, breads and cured meats. A chef is also ready to cook your eggs just the way you like them.

The Lounge area

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to explore the fitness and wellness area, but that’s something you must do if you’re staying for longer time. The wellness area is located on the second floor and provides guests with a large range of treatments and of course a sauna and steam bath. All treatments need to be booked through the concierge.

Sofitel Kurfürstendamm appeals to both business and leisure travelers who prefer spacious surroundings. It’s not your typical small charming luxury hotel (I managed to get lost on my first night!), but appreciators of modern design and simplicity will most likely find themselves comfortable here. And let’s not forget the ideal location; the hotel is literally a stone’s throw from the best shopping streets of Berlin!
