Welcome to the exclusive Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin

Historical charm and grand luxury blends together at the famous Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin. The five star hotel doesn’t only offer a splendid location close to Brandenburger Tor and all the major attractions - the restaurants are also a chapter for itself. Come join us for a tour of the property.

Luxury from the past

Mention ‘The Adlon’ in Berlin to someone over 50 and they will instantly know. Being one of the most luxurious and recognized hotels in Germany for decades, there’s really no place like ‘The Adlon’, and the elegant yet cosy atmosphere keeps alluring guests from all over the globe.

The tempestuous story began with a successful German restaurateur named Lorenz Adlon. In 1907 he opened Hotel Adlon, which quickly became one of the jet set venues of Berlin, welcoming guests such as Charlie Chaplin, Henry Ford and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Luckily, the hotel wasn’t really damaged during World War II, but in 1945 it had to close down in favor of a hospital. Unfortunately, the building burned to the ground the same year - except for one wing, which was then reopened as ‘Hotel Adlon’. This venture didn’t last long either, as DDR (for some reason!) decided to tear down the last remains of the original building in 1984. The next chapter took its beginning in 1997, when the hotel chain of Kempinski could present their brand new building inspired by the original ‘Hotel Adlon’. And the rest is history.

Walking into the lobby of The Adlon is like walking into the past. It’s a story of glamour, love, elegance and tragedy - all represented in the location, which hasn’t changed a bit. The walls might not be the originals from 1907, but the atmosphere reminds you of past glory and old-fashioned decadence. The heart of the hotel is undoubtedly the richly decorated lobby with flower centerpieces, cosy furniture and dimmed lights. It’s an obvious meeting point, both for resident guests and curious travelers enjoying the finer things in life. Here, this includes heavenly cocktails, well-brewed coffee, splendid service and an occasional piano player.

Gold-plated signature dish

Speaking of facilities; The Adlon is also home to several restaurants and bars and even a night club. Back in September, I had the pleasure of dining in one of them, Restaurant Cuarré, which is famous for - believe it or not - its gold-plated curry wurst! Some would call it pretentious, other simply love the irony. I belong to the latter. Apart from the signature dish, Cuarré serves international cuisine with regional ingredients. The atmosphere is laid-back brasserie-style yet stylish in every way. During summer, it’s possible to enjoy your meal outside with a direct view to the Brandenburger Gate. Are you into Asian food? Then try out the hotel’s Asian gourmet venue, Sra Bua. Read our review here.

Dining at Cuarré

Being one of Berlin’s only true luxury hotels (the city is full of hotels, but not in this category), it’s quite obvious that guests will also find a spa. Not just any spa, though - the largest wellness refuge in Berlin with approximately 9.000 m2 spread over three levels. The perfect place to indulge your senses after a long day of sightseeing or whatever you’re doing in Berlin.
