Gourmet and spa at Comwell Kellers Park

Some hotels offer either great wellness facilities or great cuisine – both combined is a rare pleasure! Nevertheless, that is exactly what we found on Comwell Kellers Park, just 3 hour’s drive from Copenhagen. Prepare for Nordic joie de vivre when it is best.

An historical institution

The driveway leading to Comwell Kellers Park says it all; beautiful white buildings with a rich history paired with splendid nature. This is not just a random hotel – it’s a refuge for the senses. Kellers Park was built in the end of the 19th century as an institution for the mentally challenged, but at the gateway to the new millennium the area was simply transformed into a health and wellness retreat offering anything from golf courses to sailing and private apartments. The area is still, in our opinion, one of the most beautiful nature areas in Denmark – and therefore the perfect setting for a modern wellness retreat.

Kellers Park

This 5 star hotel contains 109 bright rooms decorated in a true Nordic style, but they are not the reason for its popularity. The spa is – and the food, but I will get back to that part.
The AquaSpa caters to all needs with its large assortment of treatments and spa facilities; from the outdoor jacuzzi’s with a splendid view towards the bay to a large relaxation area, steam bath, saunas and different pools. One could easily spend an entire day here! And if that’s not enough guests can indulge in the comprehensive wellness menu, which offers a wide range of massages, facials and beauty treatments.

Spoiled by the kitchen

It was my second time visiting the property and this time around I came for the newly launched gourmet package, which would prove to be a feast for the eyes and the senses! Upon our arrival we were spoiled with cakes and coffee in the brasserie followed by a walk in the surrounding area. But the best part was certainly the 4 course gourmet dinner served in the restaurant at night.

We decided to start off with the Cava menu – a selection of three different Cavas – accompanied by a plate of homemade snacks. The wine menu was paired with our choice of food (we choose a combination of fish and meat). It was four courses heavily influenced by the Nordic cuisine – and perfectly fitting the surroundings of Kellers Park. The menu changes accordingly to season, but common ingredients count Jerusalem artichokes, lemon sole, monkfish and smoked salmon.

Spa for all senses

A spa hotel should stay true to its roots by offering light yet satisfying dishes without the hazzle – something this hotel successfully achieves. The all-round wellness package includes nutrition for both body and soul – something definitely worth traveling for!

The next morning we gathered in the restaurant once more, only this time the brunch was the center of attention. A predominantly healthy buffet consisting of different sorts of home-baked bread, cold cuts, porridge, fruit bowls, smoothies and Danish delicacies. Don’t expect lavish brunch conditions, but embrace the Nordic breakfast with a twist – this is all you really need to get started. To complete the ritual finish off with a swim or a jog in the area. Now, that is wellness!
