If you haven’t yet visited the beautiful destination of Costa Navarino in Greece, it’s about time! Located a 3 hour’s drive from Athens, this luxury gem accommodates not only long, sandy beaches and sunny weather all year round; there’s also The Westin Resort - a refuge for hedonists in search of pure relaxation.

One could argue that The Westin Resort in Costa Navarino isn’t just a resort. It’s a lifestyle. You feel it in the atmosphere, and there’s practically not a thing you can’t get here. From a wide variety of restaurants, bars and cafés to a well-equipped spa, a mini water-park, the swimming pool area, a diner and even a bowling alley (!) - the ideal playground for travelers who simply wish to check in to check out. With plenty of child-friendly facilities (including a kinder garden and a cinema playing blockbusters like ‘Shrek’), I don’t need to stress the fact that The Westin Resort is pure heaven for families. The rooms and private suites are lovely, but if you’re the active type - or if you have active children - the resort’s many entertainment offers comes in very handy.

But let’s begin with the most important part: the accommodation. From Deluxe Rooms (with or without sea views) to Superior Rooms, Family Suites, Premium Suites and the ultra luxurious Premium Infinity Suites with private pool and sea view, there are plenty of options (and budgets) to choose from. Having stayed in the last-mentioned ‘hedonist suite’, as I like to call it, for 3 nights, I can vouch for its soothing and relaxing effect! Waking up in a 70 m2 suite with a direct view to the Ionian Sea, jumping in your private pool before breakfast and sunbathing without anyone else around: that’s discrete luxury when it’s best. This kind of accommodation is somehow created for couples and honeymooners, but it can host up to 4 people in total. A Premium Infinity Suite costs from €930 per night - a Deluxe Room from €157 per night.

The friendly staff at The Westin Resort was one of the highlights of our stay. They’re very helpful and you can always ask for a lift with one of the resort’s golf cars. These will bring you from A-Z, especially one the first days, where it’s easier to get lost.
Once you’re here, food is one of the focal points. Yes, you’ll probably eat too much, but that’s part of a holiday like this (read: in Greece!) Morias is the breakfast restaurant, which also serves a family-friendly buffet throughout the day. I’m not a fan of buffet’s so instead, I’ll strike a blow for the phenomenal breakfast offering practically anything you could imagine. When the impact of breakfast decreases, there are 8 other restaurants to choose from: anything from Lebanese to Italian and Japanese cuisine will satisfy your needs, and the level is generally quite high. No matter what you do, go for lunch at the beach restaurant Barbouni, where you can sink your teeth into traditional Greek cuisine with a modern twist. Calamari, Tzatziki, dolmades…it’s all there.

And by all means, begin (or end) your day with a trip to the award-winning Anazoe spa. You’ll find an extraordinary spa menu based on ancient Greek treatments and the teachings of Hippocrates; the ‘father of Western medicine’. A unique experience that will leave you rejuvenated and relaxed from top to toe.

I won’t go too much into details with all the other activities available on the resort. There are simply too many. Yet, the golf course should obviously be inspected if you’re a keen golfer (the views are amazing!), and so should the local diving center, Aqua Divers Club, if you’re up for scuba diving, free diving or snorkeling. Last, but not least, you can visit the resort’s own dog shelter, where the lovely Hotel Manager herself, is taking care of homeless and abandoned dogs, and giving them up for adoption. Definitely worth a visit if you’d like to save a dog life or if you’re simply thinking of acquiring a furry friend.

Having traveled in Greece for many years now, I believe I can say that the true Greek spirit is easiest found on the islands. If that’s what you’re looking for (Greek lifestyle with a capital ‘G’), I wouldn’t recommend Costa Navarino. Last-mentioned is perfect, though, if you’d like to experience a different side of Greece, and - of course - luxury in all its glory. The Westin Resorts sister hotel, The Romanos, is located just next door, and this hotel should be opted for if you travel without children. The Romanos is another splendid resort and just a tad bit more luxurious, but that’s a whole different story 🙂
