Checking in: Hotel Metropole, Geneva

Hotel Metropole is everything you’d expect a modern luxury hotel to be. The neo-classical building dates back to 1854, but the interior has been completely renovated to suit to needs of business and leisure travelers from around the world. Come join us for a couple of nights in the banking capital.

Swiss hospitality at its best

Swiss hospitality is renowned all over the world. It’s a synonym for the best of the best - and you can be sure to find it in the world’s banking capital #1, Geneva. Nestled in the heart of the city with a direct view to the park, the lake and the dreamy Jet d’Eay, Hotel Metropole is an institution amongst Swiss hotels, and it’s a popular meeting venue for bankers and business people looking for a quiet yet stylish destination. One might think that Geneva is a fairly new city with high end boutiques and expensive restaurants scattered all around the lake, but that’s not entirely true. The city dates back to the Roman occupation in the second century BC (that’s thousands of years), and the old town is still very much alive - and intact. The old town (or Vieux Ville, as it’s called in French) is located just behind Hotel Metropole, and this area is certainly the most charming in the city. Read much more about this in our Geneva city guide, which will soon be published on the blog 🙂

111 carefully designed rooms and 16 suites is what guests can expect when checking in to Metropole. It’s a fairly big hotel, but it’s not overwhelming, and that’s exactly what I like about it: you feel at home, but there’s room for the individual. The hotel isn’t short on room varieties; from a classic double or Superior room to the extravagant Lake Geneva or Presidential Suites. There’s something for everyone, yet one should always opt for a suite with a view, if possible. I checked in to a so-called Lifestyle Lake-side room - a classic luxury room with colorful illustrations on the walls and elegant features such as an integrated mirror television! A splendid idea, since a TV is never adding to the beauty of a room. I could also choose my own pillow from the extensive pillow menu and the temperature could be adjusted directly from the bed. In general, Hotel Metropole offers state of the art technology, which is quite refreshing to see. Other benefits of a Lifestyle Lake-side room: a steam shower, Nespresso machine and an entertainment system. Still, my favorite part was the view!

A gastronomical highlight

Feeling thirsty or hungry? There are plenty of possibilities at Metropole; from Italian dining at Gusto and cocktails at Mirror Bar to laid-back after-work drinks on the rooftop. And let’s not forget ‘Parc des Eaux-Vives’; the gastronomical crown-jewel of Metropole located a couple of kilometers from the hotel. This restaurant deserves its own article, but instead I’ll show you some photos so you can get an idea of the idyllic settings (and the splendid food!)

Breakfast a la Hotel Metropole

A weekend stay at Hotel Metropole is the ideal solution if you wish to explore Geneva and relax at the same time. You’ll get the pleasant feeling that ‘everything is taken care of’ from the moment you step inside the lobby - and who doesn’t want that once in a while? I know I’ll be back as soon as my schedule allows me.
