A Danish feast at ‘Fru Nimb’ in Tivoli, Copenhagen

Few things compare to a traditional Danish lunch! At the newly opened restaurant ‘Fru Nimb’ in the heart of Tivoli in Copenhagen, the famous national dish of open-faced sandwiches (the so-called ‘smørrebrød’) has experienced a revival. Guests here can expect nothing less than a true feast for all senses. Bon appetit!

Refined Danish food

Taking a stroll through the world’s oldest amusement park, Tivoli, is a pleasure in itself. Combine that with a hearty lunch or dinner at the newly opened ‘Fru Nimb’ and your day won’t get any better. But Fru Nimb offers nothing new on the Nordic food scene - in fact, many places serves the national dish, smørrebrød. Nevertheless, this restaurant has a slightly different take on it; it is simply a bit more elegant and refined. The Danes have loved their national dish through generations, but it seems tourists cannot get enough of the delicate food either. And now Fru Nimb serves up the works, which should always be enjoyed with a draft beer and a schnapps!

As the name suggests, Fru Nimb belongs to the luxurious boutique hotel and restaurant next door, Nimb, which is named after its founder, Mrs. Louise Nimb. Nimb is an institution with more than 100 years of history, and to this day, it continues to allure visitors from all over the world with its elegance and uncompromising quality. A quality that obviously affects Fru Nimb as well. Guests can choose to sit inside the tastefully decorated restaurant, or outside on the terrace overlooking the buzzing Tivoli garden.

Work up an appetite

If you choose to dine here, make sure to be hungry! Fru Nimb is a cornucopia of Danish classics (such as pickled herring, smoked eel, fillet of plaice and warm liver paste), but there is also a generous selection of steak tartare, different cheese variants and warm dishes. It is (almost) impossible to choose, but hungry guests should be able to handle at least 2-3 pieces. If you ever make it for dessert, do yourself a favor and order the old-fashioned apple cake with whipped cream. You might hear angels sing.

Fru Nimb is open everyday for lunch from 12-16 and for dinner from 17:30-23. It is recommend to book a table in advance. For more information go here: frunimb.nimb.dk.
